Pattern of Litterfall in Tropical Dry Deciduous Forest of Central India: A Review

By Yamini Verma and Lalji Singh | 28-12-2022 | Page: 67-72

Abstract

The litterfall has significant role in soil organic matter (SOM) formation, nutrient input and outflow, nutrient replenishment, biodiversity conservation, and other ecosystem functions. Therefore, sustainable forest management requires in-depth knowledge of the cycling of primary process i.e., litter production. To better understand the significance of plant litter in forest ecosystems, we conducted a literature assessment on its function in tropical forest ecosystems. The research showed that the plant litter can enhance the biogeochemical cycle and nutrients in forest ecosystems. Further studies are needed to understand the impact of species, forest architecture, seasons, and climate conditions on plant litter production and decomposition in different types of forest ecosystems.
