Abstract
A field experiment was conducted to study the effect of tillage and fertilizer doses on soybean productivity and soil properties at the Research Farm, Department of Agronomy, CSKHPKV, Palampur. The experiment consisted of twelve treatment combinations which included three tillage systems minimum tillage, minimum tillage with crop residue and conventional tillage and four fertility levels viz; 25 per cent recommended dose of fertilizer (RDF), 50% RDF, 75% RDF and 100% RDF which were tested in split plot design with tillage system in main plots and fertility levels in sub plots. The soil texture of experimental site was silty clay loam. Results revealed that minimum tillage along with crop residues (T2 ) recorded the highest productivity of soybean followed by conventional tillage (T3 ). Soil pH as well as availability of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium were higher with minimum tillage + crop residue treatment. Minimum tillage + crop residue provided 5.73 and 34 per cent more yield over conventional and minimum tillage practices. It was concluded that among tillage practices, minimum tillage along with surface retention of crop residues proved best for better yield of soybean and soil properties whereas in case of different nutrient sources, 100 per cent recommended dose of fertilizer was found better to enhance crop productivity.
